In Loving Memory...

Our Mother, Odessa Chambliss was born July 6, 1933 to the late Johnny and Willie Lee Perry in Dublin GA. She confessed her faith at an early age and was baptized in the Sandyford Baptist Church.

She came to New Jersey in the late 1950’s, was a loving mother and always a friend to many.  Our mother was a member of the Jerusalem Baptist Church in Jersey City, NJ and sang in the Gospel Chorus for many years. Because of her loving and nurturing ways she was known to many of our friends and others as Mom. She worked for many years as a Nurse which fitted her warm and caring personality.  Her patients and coworkers knew her by the proud appearance she displayed and for her love of God. No matter where she was, Odessa was always telling someone about Jesus as she helped and comforted them during their illness.  Her motto and greeting was “Praise the Lord”.   She worked for many years at several medical facilities in the Jersey City area and retired after 23 years from Greenville Hospital in June 1995.

Odessa believed until the end of her life that Jesus is the answer. When asked in her last days how she was doing, her reply was “If I keep my hand in God’s hand, I know everything will be alright.”  She departed this life on April 2, 1996 and we were left with these words to live by (told to us by her doctor):

“It is not the quantity of years a person lives but the quality of life that matters.”  With this in mind we endeavor to try and add quality to those lives we touch through the Odessa Chambliss Quality of Life Fund.
